It was bound to happen eventually, and today was the day. Mimi was removed from the Google Play Store earlier this morning. While it was a shock to find out, I’m not mad or disappointed. The app gave me opportunities that I otherwise never would have had. It was the first Android app I ever wrote and by far the longest project I have ever continually worked on.
The first version of the app took me 6 weeks to write. It scraped the 4chan site and parsed HTML to display the content in a list. I published that first version in June 2012 while unemployed and bored. It was moderately well-received, and I took all the feedback to heart. Each update fixed a few things or implemented some new technology. From those few updates, I was able to learn enough to become a professional Android developer. I have been doing that ever since.
By the time Mimi was removed, it was downloaded over a million times and had about 200,000 active users every month. I will miss having a project to work on, but I think this is the right time for Mimi to end.
Thank you to everyone for your support over the years. I sincerely appreciate everyone who took the time to try out my crappy 4chan app.
