New domain

As you may have noticed, Mimi 4chan Reader now has a new domain.  The old domain was just a domain I already owned when I started writing the app.  Now that Mimi is approaching 50k installs, I figured it’s about time to get a real domain.  So here it is.  My new email address is eli@mimireader.com, but eli@emogoth.com will still work.

Basically to have watched threads updated in real-time and a notification to tell you when there have been new posts in watched threads. In addition, it would be neat to have permanent navigation bar somewhere that lets me switch between watched threads and the front page quickly.

The idea for this comes from Chan Elite on iOS, if you ever used it. It had a navigation bar at the bottom that let you switch between watched threads and the imageboard browser quickly, and had a small notification of how many new posts had been made in watched threads on the bar. Right now it feels like chore having to navigate from the browser back to the main page in order to manually check watched threads for new posts.

I agree that it’s a chore to check watched threads now. Fixing that is definitely on my list. It requires a new design, though. I’m working on a new design now, but I don’t know how long it will take.

I just wanted to personally say thanks for such a great application. I used to use chant until this application and made me realize how many features I was missing. Now I can’t go back. Thanks for all the hours you put into it.

A few people have mentioned that. I’ll try to figure out what’s going wrong and have a fix in the next release.

Hello and cheers for this app. I almost immediately purchased the donate version. I’ve got an enhancement to suggest. I use Mimi on a 10″ tablet with a high resolution. If using it on landscape mode, quite all the pictures get stretched to fit the view . Could you disable the stretching if picture resolution is, let’s say, 80% smaller of the screen in terms of dimensions? Don’t even know whether this is technically feasible or not.
    Thank you!

Thank you very much for the suggestion! I’m working on a tablet redesign now. One of the issues I’m taking on with the redesign is the gallery. I can’t promise anything, but my goal is to have gesture support as well as proper image sizing. At the very least it should look better overall on a 10″ tablet.

That’s a good suggestion. I’ve never worked with SSL on Android. I’ll see what it will take to add it.

Love this app, I’ve got a few other suggestions:

1.Color coding. All posts made by the OP could be one color, and posts that reply to my posts could be highlighted in another color
This was used on another 4chan app a while back and it makes it SO much easier to see who’s replied to your posts instead of clicking every single reply to see if was directed to you or not. It could be something as simple as a different font color to post numbers, or the entire comment highlighted

    2. Word filtering. This is probably the most significant update you could implement. In the settings you could have a word filtering section, we could add any word we like in this list and Mimi could automatically filter out any threads/posts with those words in them. As far as the user is concerned they don’t exist. REALLY helpful to avoid threads we’re not interested in ex: (pony gore cp cheese pizza) etc

Other possible updates (probably not as important)

    1. Slightly larger thumbnails
    2. Show the number of posts and images at the bottom of thread (currently only shows this when you’re on the main board scrolling through threads)
    3. Last but not least, image swiping. Currently when in “gallery mode” you have to tap the next image in the image bar at the bottom to see the next image. Could you allow swiping the image (that you’re currently viewing) to the left or right to view the next image? Just like any image other viewer, the swipe gesture feels much more natural.

I know its all TL;DR but I’ve got 4 different 4chan apps and I see this one having the most potential as being the “official” android 4chan app. I give it praise in threads all the time

Thank you very much for the comment! The first two suggestions will take a bit of work, but they’re worth adding into a future update.

As of last night, I got a version of the gallery working with gesture support. It works smoothly with both static images and animated gifs. It’s not ready for release, but it’s a nice demo.

Showing post numbers at the bottom of the thread should be trivial, but there may also be a better way to show that information. I’m working at freeing up space on the action bar to provide space for things like post count.

Thumbnails can be resized currently. It’s in the thread settings. You can choose between small, medium, and large thumbnails (or text).

Again, thank you for the suggestions. It’s helpful to know if I’m on the right path and where I should go in the future.
