The latest version attempts to fix a few issues with some older phones. The first was with the database cursor not being closed in certain situations. Hopefully that will fix any problems people had with loading threads. There was also a potentially uncaught exception when saving a file. Now it’s a caught exception and will display an error. Instead of crashing, it will just not save your image. I guess that’s better than nothing. I’ll keep looking for better ways to fix it, but I haven’t seen any problems so I can’t get a stack trace.
The other change was with how ads are handled. There have been a few complaints that the ads are too big. I’ve looked for ways to use smaller ads, but I’m using the smallest ad size that AtMob makes available. While I can’t use a smaller ad size, I can hide the ads for a while. It is now possible to hide ads for 60 seconds. Now you can read threads and browse images without distraction from the ads.
The final addition is something I should have added a long time ago, but for some reason I always forgot before I put out the release. The fast scroll has been enabled on the topic view and thread view. It should make it easier to scroll to the top and bottom.
This release was mainly to show off the new tabs, but it also fixed a bug with the image gallery clipping full-size images. Images should be displayed and tabs should look a lot better.
Also, I woke up this morning to check /g/ and noticed a thread about Mimi. It was not started by me and I found it already in progress. In the thread, someone accused me of spamming. I’d like to think that I don’t spam, but I am excited that I made an app and it (sort of) works. I’ll stop making topics about it, though.
The latest version of Mimi has been released and contains a ton of new fixes. The biggest change is the addition of reply tracking. You can now click on post IDs to see the post they are referring to. You may also notice, the light theme has also been updated to remove the terrible orange/pink color. The image gallery didn’t escape some changes as well. The progress bar is no longer visible unless something is loading. That should increase screen space a little. Here are a few pictures to help illustrate the changes.
Along with the feature additions and visual changes comes a host of fixes and other minor tweaks. Overall it should be more stable on all devices and hopefully threads load a bit faster.
There are a ton more changes that probably should be done, but I’m happy with how this one came out.
Thank you to everyone on /g/ who participated in my
viral marketing attempt solicitation of ideas to improve Mimi. I got a lot of good ideas and I even wrote some of them down. A few will make it into the next release with more added later.
Someone recently left a really good comment for my app on Google Play. They don’t have a way for me to reply directly yet so I’m writing a thanks here in the hopes that they see it. The comment I’m referring to is this one. It’s the kind of criticism I can put into action. While I don’t think I’ll necessarily be able to implement all of the requests, I’m really happy they took the time to write it all down.
Anyway, things are still rolling along. The reply tracking is done, but I have some bugs left and a few visual issues I want to get ironed out.
I’m finally back at work adding new features to Mimi. I took a few day break because I just didn’t feel like doing anything. The reply tracking system is currently being developed and coming along nicely. It might be another week or so until the next release because I want to fix a few bugs before then as well.
This is probably how it will end up looking. Web pages will also be parsed and clickable.
The first uploaded 1.2 package wasn’t build properly and had some issues. I’ve seen one error report using that older package, but hopefully it didn’t get pushed out to too many people. It’s seriously unstable due to some configuration issues in the signing process. I noticed the issues immediately and fixed them.
The new package is a little over 900k. The bad package is about 670k. If you’re seeing a lot of crashes, specifically when opening the settings menu, uninstall Mimi and reinstall from Google Play.
Version 1.2 has just been pushed out to Google Play. It should be available shortly.
* New tabs (all, favorites, watched threads, and history)
* More settings
Keep track of your favorite boards and your previous thread history. The watched threads will persist until you manually delete them but thread history is cleared when you exit the app.
Here are a couple of screenshots showing what I’m working on. It’s far from complete, but things have finally started going smoothly again.
